Nefertiti Matos Olivares

(she/her) I am a blind, bilingual Latina with a deep passion for making culture accessible to all. As a professional voice talent specializing in Audio Description (AD) narration, I leverage my extensive background in Assistive Technology and cultural accessibility to ensure that cultural spaces and experiences are truly inclusive for everyone.
I am particularly dedicated to producing culturally competent and inclusive AD, and I thrive on breaking new ground in this field. In 2023, I made history as the first blind person to perform live AD at the Oscars, followed by the Emmys in 2024. My narration work spans various media, both in English and Spanish, including numerous independent films, the Emmy-winning short My Disability Roadmap, the Hot Docs Official Selection Unseen, and Netflix’s Jennifer Lopez: Halftime. I also bring characters to life through voice acting, such as my role as Meggy, the little yellow Egg Timer, in Season Six of the America’s Test Kitchen Mystery Recipe podcast.
As Workflow Manager for Quality and Inclusion at Descriptive Video Works, I am committed to creating pathways for meaningful employment within the AD industry for blind and low vision professionals. I am proud to be a member of the Social Audio Description Collective, where I lead projects and contribute as a narrator and quality control specialist, collaborating with renowned organizations like Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Guggenheim Museum, National Park Service, and Voice of America. In addition to my professional work, I co-host the Blind-Centered Audio Description Chat series and manage the Audio Description LinkedIn Group, a space dedicated to advancing conversations and innovation in AD.
